Teen immigrant on track to become DISD's youngest teacher
Melisa, a 17-year-old undocumented immigrant born in Mexico, is on track to become Dallas ISD’s youngest teacher. She earned an associate degree from Eastfield College, will graduate high school, then start a Texas Tech program to gain bachelor’s degree and teaching certification in one year. She plans to teach bilingual elementary in August 2017, pursuing DACA benefits and scholarships to fund her path.
