Odessa American reports that in the Permian Basin the world’s largest oil companies have placed their oldest oil and gas leases on the market. Independent producers rapidly acquired the blocks as analysts call this a major liquidation of majors. Groppe notes the trend stems from cost pressures and reduced resources across majors like Chevron Texaco and others.
Non major oil firms show strong demand for aging wells as major producers like ChevronTexaco and ExxonMobil shed all but their most productive lease interests. Independent producers are rapidly buying remaining stakes and acquiring associated production and distribution assets, including thousands of wells.
Two local veterans, Robert Propp from Odessa and Richard Brinkley from Andrews, who parachuted into Normandy during D Day, will meet for the first time this week. Brinkley planned to attend Washington Memorial Day events but postponed until later this summer while Permian Basin residents have several local Memorial Day options including a ceremony and flyover by the Commemorative Air Force and American Air Power Heritage Museum.
