Texas House Sends $30.8 Billion Budget to White
The Texas House approved a 1984-85 budget of 30.8 billion dollars 95-51 after a House Senate conference committee. It moves to Comptroller Bob Bullock for revenue verification before reaching Governor Mark White who had pressed for tax hikes. UTPB amendment eases admission in four year bid

Memorial Day Nation Is Becoming Proud Says Veterans
Memorial Day weekend honors veterans of the nation s most unpopular war while a U S military adviser slain in Salvadoran civil conflict is mourned in his hometown. Two World War II buddies plan a reunion as Americans flood beaches and parks despite snowmelt flooding in the Rockies and Sierra Nevada and a Southern California smog advisory. At Arlington 19 honor guard members returned to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to mark the ceremony. A riderless horse led by black berets memorializes dead Vietnam veterans at Chicago s Cedar Park Cemetery where 1 000 veterans are buried. Vietnam memorials opened in Bridgeport Conn and Eufaula Ala where Gen William Westmoreland urged being proud of veterans. Navy Lt Comdr Albert Schaufelberger III, the only U S adviser killed in the Salvadoran war, was remembered in Fripp Island S C with ashes to be scattered Friday at sea. Most national parks ran crowded but Yosemite closed 417 of 750 campsites due to Merced River danger.
