Trial of former athlete goes on in sexual assault case
Attorney Rick Navarrete wrapped up most of the defense testimony in the 19 year old Roger Bueno's sexual assault trial. Proceedings resume at 9 a.m. in Judge Bill McCoy's 358th District Court. Bueno, a former Andrews Mustangs wide receiver and cornerback, faces two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and two counts of indecency with a child under 14. He was detained by ICE in April 2007 after questions about residency status surfaced during investigations. Witnesses testified Bueno sought citizenship after being adopted by his grandmother, though the process was incomplete. He declined voluntary deportation to Mexico and later returned to Andrews. The male complainant is related to Bueno by marriage.
