Leaflets slipped into foreigners mail in Peking amid political unrest
Foreign residents report mail from home sometimes arrives with mimeographed declarations inserted by anti-communists or supporters of the Gang of Four. The pieces, often sealed and added to greeting cards, may delay delivery by weeks and are believed to originate outside China, possibly Hong Kong. The materials condemn Deng Xiaoping and the regime, praise Maoist-era figures, urge democracy, and reference Polish strikes.
