Ector County Jail Faces Compliance Scrutiny and Budget Shifts
Officials cited an unsafely wired sprinkler system and unclear corrective actions at the Ector County Detention Center. The jail, under past noncompliance in 2013 for overcrowding, prompted contracts with Lynn, Hale, and Hudspeth counties and a $1 million budget increase for detention services. As of Thursday, 696 inmates were housed, with 71 in other counties, amid preparations for Easter weekend and a new fifth district court to free the others to handle criminal cases. Sheriff-elect Griffis pledged ongoing improvements and compliance before taking office in January. Read the report at tinyurl com j2w6fcn.
