Whalen to lead 70th District Court after primary win

Whalen defeated Jerry D. Caddel by 1,792 votes in the primary to secure the 70th District Court seat. The 48 year old Texas Tech Law School graduate and former Municipal Court appointee praised broad cross party support and highlighted experience. Caddel, 56, a longtime lawyer and former Ector County Judge, entered late and cited his 26 years in practice.

DeLay Wins GOP Nomination in Sugar Land Primary

Rep. Tom DeLay topped three challengers in the U S House District 22 GOP primary with 64 percent of vote share as only 14 percent of precincts reported He defeated environmental attorney Tom Campbell 26 percent DeLay 58 and indicted on corporate donation charges plans for trial follow.

Simmons wins Precinct 2 race in three-way poll

Incumbent County Commissioner Greg Simmons avoided a runoff by securing 51.67 percent with 1 551 votes in Precinct 2. Challenger Sam Gray trailed with 818 votes and 27.25 percent, while O A Bob Brookshire had 633 votes and 21.09 percent. Simmons praised supporters after the close result.

Precinct 4 runoff set for Ray versus Rodriguez

In the Ector County Precinct 4 race R ay and Armando S. Rodriguez top the tally with 426 and 287 votes respectively and advance to an April 11 runoff. Arlo Chavira and Phillip Bagley were eliminated with 280 and 35 votes.
