Protests Mobilize Against Reagan Salvadoran Policy
A May 3 march on the Pentagon led by the Peoples’ Anti-War Mobilization opposes U.S. cuts in social programs and seeks aid to El Salvador over military spending. The coalition includes Catholic groups, Maryknoll priests, Noam Chomsky, and former antiwar activists. Critics say U.S. military aid to El Salvador supports a brutal junta amid human rights concerns and recent violence. Protests and teach-ins, including a Washington church event, echo Vietnam era tactics with plans for vigils and hunger strikes.
