Justice Dept. Won't Prosecute Holder in Contempt Case
The Justice Department said Attorney General Eric Holder did not commit a crime by withholding information on the Operation Fast and Furious gun-tracking probe from Congress and will face no contempt prosecution. House leaders had voted to hold Holder in criminal and civil contempt, while President Obama asserted executive privilege. Deputy AG James Cole said the decision follows long-standing DOJ practice and cites a Reagan-era opinion. Rep. Darrell Issa and Republicans expressed disappointment as documents remain sought for the Fast and Furious inquiry.
