Drug bust nets vast marijuana seizure and arrests

Drug agents seized more than three quarters of a ton of marijuana with an estimated street value of $703,000 and jailed two men early Thursday. The article notes new state laws touching the courtroom classroom and the bedroom take effect nationwide Saturday.

Odessa entities plan July Fourth closures citywide

Odessa College and the Odessa Sports Center will close Tuesday July 4. ECISD and Ector County offices including the courthouse will close July 3 and 4. Rainfall lifts June totals but trails yearly average

Rainfall Thursday pushed June precipitation above normal to 1.9 inches for the month at Midland International and Schlémeyer airports, with a year-to-date total of 5.75 inches. Meteorologist Alec Lyster noted 16 inches below the annual normal of 5.91 inches, as low-level moisture fed an upper disturbance. Fire near Hanford fuels nuclear fears in Washington

A wildfire sparked by a car crash swept across Hanford’s sagebrush, destroying at least 25 homes and forcing about 7,000 residents to evacuate as winds up to 30 mph and extreme heat spread the blaze toward the U S nuclear weapons plant. Airlines add Midland Houston nonstop and jet conversion

Continental Express will add a sixth nonstop Midland to Houston Intercontinental, using 50-seat regional jets on Midland Houston flights.
