The UTPB Spanish Literary Club will hold a buffet dinner with Mariachis at 7 p.m. Friday at La Mision Restaurant 1008 S Big Spring St. Tickets are 20 dollars, available at Dr Torufio's UTPB Mesa Building 4112 Globe Theatre or La Mision. Funds support cultural activities for UTPB students and the community.
The UTPB Exhibit of Graduating Seniors opens at 7 p.m. Friday in the Nancy Fyfe Cardozier Gallery within the UTPB Visual Arts building. Display runs June 30 to July 30 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Jim Harris, owner of Truckload Fireworks, hailed a Sweetwater judge ruling Midland County cannot ban all firework sales. The buyback relief followed firework sales during a temporary burn ban lifted before a scheduled hearing. Harris noted officials scheduled to revisit bans after a Monday meeting, while Emergency Manager Commissioner Jimmy Smith later reimposed the ban.

Janet Smith saw the Pet of the Week photo in the Odessa American and adopted Jackson, a Schnauzer, after visiting Odessa Animal Control. He joined Smith's older Schnauzer General, helping as his eyes and ears. The center houses 76 dogs and 24 cats, with three to ten days for unclaimed animals before euthanasia if not adopted.
Vickie Lee president of PAWS Cat Rescue Haven House led the first Internet adoption Friday. She joined more than 9,500 welfare groups posting pet info on petfinder dot com. The site lets buyers shop for pets without visiting a shelter. Lee posted photos and details two weeks earlier for about 30 adoptable cats, with another 10 not considered adoptable.
