Law Enforcement Funds Cut Spark Goldsmith Dispute

Mayor Clint Green blamed politics and County Auditor Bill Hicks for Ector County Commissioners dropping Goldsmith’s $500 monthly police salary subsidy. The county will allocate the money to the sheriff to assign a deputy near Goldsmith, a plan Green doubts will suffice. He urged sheriff involvement or reinstating county payments until Goldsmith grows enough to fund a full officer.

Court action loom as search for missing Gloria Green widens

In Odessa a large morning search for Gloria Sue Nix Green continues as authorities probe her disappearance. Attorney Tom Sneed says he may seek a writ of habeas corpus to reduce the bond of a 34 year old ex convict held on Midland assault with intent to murder and related charges. Sheriff Gabrel coordinates a wide search with 60 plus deputies, city police, and other workers near the petrochemical complex, as potential new warrants and a kidnapping charge loom.

Gaines County Judge Browne resigns after 31 years in service

Slaying Suspect Ruled Insane in Alpine Court

A jury in District Judge C. E. Patterson's court ruled Stanley L. Lewis insane at the time he allegedly killed five year old McCamey boy Lewis Earp on May 28. The 33 year old McCamey resident was charged with murder and ordered confined in the maximum security ward at Rusk State Hospital after the sanity hearing, conducted with testimony on Lewis' 11 year history of mental problems.

Midland Civic Center Plan Gains Approval

Midland County Commissioners approved a $2,400 contract with Caudill Rowlett and Scott of Houston to develop more detailed civic center plans. The move follows the $72,000 master plan, with CRS to get the architect contract if a bond is approved. A scale model of a $2.5 million Midland Odessa Regional Air Terminal interchange was also viewed, with right of way nearly complete and potential start by November, to be finished in about 450 days.
