Stacey Bradley 18 of Denver City won the Miss Texas National Teen-Ager title in Fort Worth and will compete Aug. 9 in Atlanta for the national crown. The Denver City High School valedictorian previously won Miss West Texas National Teen-Ager in Midland and outpaced 135 contestants in the state pageant. Odessa Jaycees announce safe viewing at the Ector County Coliseum parking lot for the Fourth of July. Personal fireworks are banned. $2 per car collects to fund the display. Gates open 7:30 p.m. and the fireworks start at 10 p.m.
Beauty contestant Melissa Kaye Smith of Artesia New Mexico was named second alternate to the Cinderella Queen at the Eighth Annual New Mexico State Cinderella Girl Pageant in Rosell New Mexico. She is the granddaughter of Don Alexander and Mrs Norman Smith, and great granddaughter of Dee Floyd, all of Odessa. Her parents are Jon and Mrs Smith of Loco Hills. She also won Cinderella Miss at the Artesia preliminary.
Midland Civil Air Patrol hosts a Saturday Search and Rescue exercise for state CAP members and U S Air Force personnel. Mission HQ will be Basin Aviation at Midland Airpark. A similar exercise will occur in Houston the same day for southern Texas, spokesman said.
