Possible sale clouds future for city plant
The Odessa operation of OPI Inc may be sold to a Houston company, with the plant’s fate unclear if the sale proceeds. OPI vice president Larry Gorrell said rumors run wild and many are panicking. The firm, a mud pump maker and an OPI Ltd subsidiary, employed about 80 workers at South Grandview Avenue, down from 550 in 1982. A June 18 letter of intent with Cooper Industries of Houston was cited by Rich Bajewski.

EPA mandate hikes leaded gas price steadies supplies
EPA rules cut lead in regular gasoline to 0.5 grams per gallon effective Monday, raising refining costs. Shell and Texaco suppliers expect higher pump prices linked to supply and demand, with some stations already increasing fuel costs. Officials warn further cuts to 0.1 grams by 1986 could lift prices more, while refiners note extra crude and processing are needed to achieve the same octane.
