Armstrong Pulled Rank for First Moon Landing
Space Center reports that Neil Armstrong used the commander’s prerogative to become the first man on the moon. Former official Paul Haney says the lunar module pilot was originally planned to be first, but final plan approved by the Configuration Control Board. George Low confirms no change in plan, while noting rehearsals influenced the decision. The July 20 1969 landing and July 21 moonwalk were shaped by authority and training inputs.
