Summer maintenance rush at ECISD pools funds for aging campuses
Odessa's ECISD maintenance team shifts into high gear every summer. Ron Davis says 115 full time workers stay year round with 50 more hired for 25 days. Projects include replacing evaporative coolers, resurfacing gym floors, painting interiors, moving portable classrooms, and extensive cleaning dubbed gang cleaning involving 50 to 60 custodians. Gaps in aging infrastructure worry district officials as 75 percent of schools exceed 50 years, with cramped tunnels and frequent outside plumbing repairs highlighting unseen risks.
