AUSTIN AP There is no doubt about the legal status of bills arriving after adjournment. Gov Preston Smith vetoed 38 bills and 12 resolutions, ending their chances. Lieutenant Governor Ben Barnes decried the move as ludicrous while Attorney General Crawford Martin said the bills were invalid if nonsignature.

Odessa Marine Dies In Action In Vietnam
Marine James Cararubio of Odessa was killed by shrapnel during an enemy mortar attack northwest of Cam Loc in Quang Tri Province. A 20 year old former Ector High School student, he served as a guard dog handler with the 3rd Military Police Battalion and was on his second Vietnam tour. Born May 15 1949 in San Angelo he moved to Odessa in 1958. Funeral arrangements are pending. Survivors include his mother Mrs Jesusito Garcia stepfather Edward Garcia two sisters Jo Ann Gutierrez and Sharon Gambo and three brothers Tony Ritchie Louis Garcia.
