Odessa Odessa effluent impacts groundwater and new plant plans
Fight Brown warns that abandoned ponds release nitrates into groundwater harming water quality. Hydrologists estimate seepage at 1188 gallons per minute with five affected areas, though natural removal occurs seasonally. Odessa argues its water is cleaner as it expands irrigation fields and pipelines, while researchers note nitrates and ammonia in area wells but cannot clearly tie them to Odessa effluent.
