Sentence overturned for former Hidalgo County Sheriff Marmolejo Jr
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled Marmolejo Jr. must receive a new sentencing hearing after finding the district judge failed to provide proper notice of a planned departure from federal guidelines. Marmolejo, convicted July 1994 of money laundering bribery and racketeering, had been sentenced to seven years.
