Artful pivot: former San Angelo chicken plant becomes art commune
Roger Allen, a San Angelo Central High School art teacher, bought a 3 acre weed-choked site once home to Pilgrim's Pride and Perdue Farms for 25000 dollars and built an artist complex. Now 23 artists inhabit 20 studios plus living quarters behind a wall of giant pencil murals. The compound houses the Silo Restaurant in the old silo and reflects a rustic Texas cool vibe noted by a Washington Post writer.
