Machine decodes DNA structure to boost disease research

Pasadena AP reports Dr. Leroy Hood and colleagues at Caltech unveiled an automated DNA sequencer that speeds decoding of DNA. The device aims to advance knowledge of inherited diseases and cancer, and may aid AIDS vaccine development, NSF Director Erich Bloch says it marks a key step in understanding life’s complexity.
