Shigella dysentery blamed for half of recent deaths at Union Grove colony
Supt John M Garstecki cites that shigella dysentery caused 1,500 to 1,800 cases in Wisconsin's Southern Colony and Training School over two years, and was a primary or secondary death factor in about 54 of 109 deaths. The piece paints dire staffing gaps, overcrowding, and funding needs, noting 10 million spent on facilities in a decade and calls for more money and reform.
