ECISD adopts summer hours for offices this week

Ector County ISD will switch to summer work hours from Monday through Thursday with extended hours, and Friday closures. Exceptions apply to schools running summer school in June which stay open Monday through Friday until it ends, and the week of July 4 will return to a normal 8 to 5 schedule. Museum Offers Fun Community Days

The Ellen Noél Art Museum at 4909 E University Blvd hosts Community Art Day Pop Art from 10 am to 1 pm on July 22. Participants of all ages will explore art inspired by Roy Lichtenstein Claes Oldenburg James Rosenquist and Andy Warhol. The event is free and open to the public. Call 550-9696.

Healthcare on ECHO agenda for first meeting

Newly elected Ector County Hospital District board members meet tonight at 5 30 in Medical Center Hospital to discuss retiree healthcare benefits. Past actions created HRAs after retirees were removed from the insurance plan, while a lawsuit over benefits failed to show a contractual waiver of immunity. Don Hallmark says he will pursue the issue openly to inform all members of information provided by lawyers and potential retiree benefits.

Hundreds attend UTPB Summer Bridge program this week

Middle and high school students from across the region converge on the University of Texas of the Permian Basin for the Summer Bridge program. The goal is to prepare them for the Texas Success Initiative exam determining college readiness. About 242 students, mostly eighth graders with some freshmen and sophomores, participate.

Odessa College Eyes Four Year Degrees Expansion

Odessa College and other Texas community colleges anticipate offering four year degrees under Senate Bill 2118. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board gained broader authority to permit qualified colleges to grant bachelor’s degrees in selected fields such as nursing applied technology and early childhood education. The campus plans a transparent process with internal and external stakeholders including UT Permian Basin and local workforce groups to determine possible programs.
