Texas drought eases but drought risk remains high
The report notes a milder June to August outlook with average statewide temperatures in the low 80s, contrasting last year’s 86.7 degree summer. El Nino may bring above normal rainfall by late summer, while La Nina drove last year’s drought that cost Texas agriculture about 76 billion dollars. Treat venomous snakebites with calm care and medical aid
The real debate on venomous bites favors early professional care over old western remedies. Do not cut or suck venom, use no tourniquet, and avoid alcohol. Keep the victim still, below heart level, remove jewelry, and call 911. Photograph the snake if safe. Antivenin costs rise. CroFab can reach about 1500 dollars per vial, with 4 to 40 vials typical. Prevention includes staying clear of snake habitats and wearing boots, then backing away slowly if sighted.
