Corpus councilman sues taxpayer group over recall graft
Corpus Christi councilman Jack Best filed a libel suit against the Corpus Christi Taxpayers Association seeking 17 million dollars in damages. The suit accuses the 15 member board and secretary Joe O'Brien of defaming him in recall petitions aimed at ousting the whole council after a Proposition 14 tax limitation dispute. The group says signatures exceed 5,000 with a June 12 deadline of 9,400.
