U S Rig Count Rises to 1771 Across States

Baker Hughes reports the U S rig count up nine this week to 1771 with 1410 oil rigs and 354 gas rigs, seven miscellaneous. Texas gains three rigs, Colorado Oklahoma and North Dakota add two each, Alaska New Mexico and Wyoming one each. Arkansas falls one. California Louisiana Pennsylvania and West Virginia unchanged. The nationwide count peaked at 4530 in 1981 and fell to 488 in 1999.

Wall Street Glance Dow Jones and Other Indexes

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 15115.57 with a high of 15392.38 and a loss of 208.96. Other indices slipped as the Standard & Poor 500 fell to 1630.74, the NYSE Index to 9302.27, and the Nasdaq Composite to 3455.91, down 23.67, 157.78, and 35.39 respectively.
