Kirkland joins picket line with United pilots
AFL-CIO President Lane Kirkland joined about 40 striking United pilots and supporters at National Airport, denouncing the company’s back-to-work stance as an outrage amid the third week of a strike that has limited roughly 14 percent of the airline’s normal schedule. He planned to walk the line again in Indianapolis at an AFL-CIO regional meeting. In a separate note, three soldiers from Grenada smuggling cases received clemency, not overturning convictions, with appeals pending. Capt John El Dorst, Staff Sgt Allan J Cassatt, and Sgt Bruce Willard remain on legal status while possible return to active duty opens.
