Gary Steiner 42 and his 14 year old companion Kenny Steiner, who has muscular dystrophy, completed a one mile swim across the Mississippi during the Memphis in May Triathlon weekend. Kenny, who uses a wheelchair and has limited use of limbs, rode in a raft and wore life preservers while Steiner paddled and pulled teammates across the river. The duo have teamed in about 40 events, including triathlons and marathons, with Kenny describing their bond as sharing a big brother dynamic.
