Rise in heroin use hits Pacific Northwest cities hard
CDC data show heroin overdoses surged in Multnomah County Oregon from 46 in 1993 to 111, a 141 percent rise, and in King County Washington from 47 in 1990 to 110 in 1999. Overdoses chiefly affected men ages 25 to 54, with deaths often undercounted. National DAWN figures also reflect rising heroin-related deaths across large cities.
