Twirling Competition Sparks Growth in Odessa
About 80 girls aged 3 to 21 from public, private and private-tuition programs competed in Odessa with modeling, team twirling and individual events. Amanda Tolley, a Texas Tech twirler, recalled starting at 15 months and returning after a break, while 7-year-old Laney Whitefield impressed with makeup and costumes. Parents cited perseverance and practice as keys to progress as twirling grows more athletic and dance driven.
