Hospital within a hospital opens long term care unit in West Texas
A long term acute care facility opens Thursday evening on the sixth floor west wing of Medical Center Hospital in West Texas. RHC CEO Brian Wells says the unit serves the hospital’s sickest patients who need 25 plus days of care and can go home after weeks of treatment. MCH CEO Bill Webster notes the concept fills a gap, avoiding out of town transfers. The arrangement provides three benefits: space lease, payment for ancillary services, and treatment of long term patients the hospital previously lost money on. approval next week will allow full Medicare Medicaid subsidy.
