Vatican issues guidelines for Catholic politicians
The Vatican approves guidelines by Pope John Paul II urging Catholic politicians to defend life from conception to natural death and to promote marriage between a man and a woman. The document, prepared by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, frames political conscience rather than punishment and aims to illuminate leaders amid upcoming demonstrations on abortion and same sex issues, before Roe v. Wade anniversary.
