Sex crimes prosecutor handles cases in Ector County
Susan Redford, deputy district attorney in Ector County, prosecutes sex crimes against women and children and handles sex offender registration issues. Hired 18 months ago by District Attorney John Smith, she has tried four sexual assault cases and estimates 65 cases yearly, with dismissals and pleas affecting jury trials. Redford led the child sexual assault case against 29 year old Joe Julian Ornelas, whose charges were dropped after the victim’s mother waived prosecution. Ernesto Gonzalez, previously defended by Justin Low, was sentenced to five years for indecency with a child, and Low compared Redford to her career.
