Gaines named new ECISD athletics chief in West Texas backdrop
Former Permian coach Gary Gaines is recommended as executive director of athletics for Ector County Independent School District, seen as a smart move to revive Odessa football and other programs. The essay lauds Gaines as a class act with West Texas reach, noting his state title in 1989 and ties across Crane Monahans Abilene Christian. It highlights patience with program-building and acknowledges potential fan grumbling from Odessa High, while praising Superintendent Wendell Sollis for the hire and Gaines's national profile from Friday Night Lights.
