Convicted doctor to remain in jail
A Boston area court denied early release for Dr. Alan Lefkowitz, one of three doctors sentenced to six months for raping a Cambridge nurse in 1980. Lefkowitz argued he could have been freed earlier after learning fellow defendant Dr. Arif Hussain was released 21 days early for good behavior. The judge said the Department of Correction fulfilled its obligation to advise on good time credits. Hussain, from Brookline, was released Dec. 10 after starting a work and blood-donor program. Lefkowitz and Dr. Eugene Sherry remain incarcerated.
