Pope appeals for peace in Christmas message
Pope John Paul II used his Urbi et Orbi address from St. Peter's to urge world peace amid church bombings in Indonesia and Middle East violence. He spoke despite Parkinsonian tremors, denouncing abortion and urging debt relief for developing nations, with outdoor Mass marking the Jubilee Year and a door closing ceremony planned for January.
