James B. Cocking, a brilliant Lynchburg College professor, resigned after college officials found the advanced degrees he claimed from Oxford and the University of Lille actually belonged to his uncle who shares his name. President George N. Rainsford called it an identity crisis, noting Cocking remains a capable teacher.
