Florida case strikes down child name law in federal ruling
A federal judge invalidated Florida’s rule that a child born in wedlock must take the father’s last name. The ruling favored Dean Skylar and Chris Ledbetter of Delray Beach who named their son Sydney Anthony Skybetter after marrying and using Ledbetter’s maiden name. The couple argued the statute intruded on family decisions and identity.
