Machine Gun Kelly’s college record questions infamous gangster label
Mississippi State University records show George Barnes later known as Machine Gun Kelly had a poor academic start with 31 demerits in the first semester and 24 in weeks of the second. He enrolled as a probationary student in 1917, earned a C-plus as his top grade, and later built a criminal career, though officials note little evidence of actual gunfire.
