FTC abandons food ad rules in split vote
The FTC voted to drop an eight year effort requiring more consumer information in food advertising. Commissioner Pertschuk warned of risks from deceptive health claims, while Chairman Miller and others urged further review and case by case enforcement. The Center for Science in the Public Interest criticized the move as a retreat from watchdog duties.
