Summit power project seeks funding extensions for 400 MW plant
Summit Power Group, ODC, and Odessa City Council voted to extend a $5 million line of credit to June 30 2014 and to extend Phase 1 of the 400 megawatt plant project slated for Penwell a 600 acre site. The plan aims to capture 90 percent of carbon dioxide and sell four byproducts including electricity urea fertilizer and sulfuric acid with $450 million expected from the DOE and 1500 to 2000 workers needed for construction. Labor costs remain the main hurdle as financing from a Chinese bank remains in place. There is talk of a January groundbreaking if labor costs can be resolved.
