Congressional subcommittee weighs online gambling in hearing

LAS VEGAS advocates on all sides cheered a congressional hearing on the state of online gambling. The House Subcommittee on Commerce Manufacturing and Trade heard testimony from American Gaming Association President Geoff Freeman praising leadership and urging a national regulatory framework while the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling welcomed attention to online betting dangers. At least three bills related to online gambling have been introduced this year.

Odessa Heart Institute sale approved by Ector hospital board

The Ector County Hospital District Board of Directors approved purchasing the Odessa Heart Institute for 1.635 million dollars and hiring MCHS ProCare to own the real estate and practice. The deal, expected to close by January 2014, will keep the same physicians and rename the clinic ProCare Odessa Heart Institute.
