Trustees find no evidence of negligence in student injury case
After a four hour hearing the Ector County Independent School District board announced no sufficient evidence of negligence by the high school athletic trainer in treating a 17 year old student for an October 1977 injury. The student sought about 300 dollars in medical reimbursements and claimed harassment. the trainer defended his approach, saying the injury warranted medical advice only if needed. Trustees noted the timing of the insurance claim and possible January 1978 fracture, directing the student to refile with the insurer. The decision included a recommendation to assist with medical bills if possible and to refocus discussions at the school.
