FDIC Moves as Permian Bank Failures Shake Odessa Area
InterFirst Odessa vice president Leroy Thompson says Hubbard’s loan is past due and the court has placed collateral under its control to prevent disposal. Area bankers warn loans must be collected under federal guidelines. FDIC expands in Midland with about 135 staff, projected 300 to handle liquidations from three failed Permian Basin banks.

Chute saves jumper from 2000 foot tower in Missouri City
A man claiming to be veteran climber Skip Stanley leaped from a 2000 foot broadcasting tower and fell hundreds of feet after his first parachute failed. A reserve chute saved him and he landed in a backyard about half a mile from the tower. Authorities obtained a warrant to search the home where he was sheltered by the Ferrises for over two hours before officers took him into custody at 7:15 p.m. A crowd of about 200 cheered. Stanley, also known as David Adcock, previously parachuted from the 68th floor of the 71 story Allied Bank Tower last May and has scaled a building in St. Louis. No charges were announced Sunday night.
