Prison riot at Oklahoma prison leaves one dead and 23 injured
Gov. George Nigh declared a state of emergency as National Guard troops backed police moved to end a riot at Conner Correctional Center 30 miles northwest of Tulsa. About 747 inmates were confined in a 400 capacity facility. 4 dormitories burned and power was out. One inmate died of gunshot wounds and more than twenty others were injured while four buildings were demolished. Guards regained control of all but one dormitory as 130 inmates remained in custody and plans were made to transfer 600 inmates to other prisons.
