Ector County Independent School District officials report new year enrollment of 24,831 students as of Tuesday, up from Monday’s 23,625. The breakdown shows 717 in ECISD early education, 313,250 in elementary, 5,878 in junior high, and 4,986 in high schools.
Revell has worked on the financial side ahead of the May election as ECISD considers raising teacher salaries funded by property tax. A September public hearing will discuss a tax rate of 1.43 per 100 valuation, down from 1.50, with 11 percent higher taxable values and about 67 million expected for maintenance and operation.
Property tax revenue will fund teacher salaries with about 800000 for school equipment and 200000 for KOCV-TV. More than two dozen teachers were named Teacher of the Year and received nearly 2500 dollars each, with a $100000 donation from John Bushman to the honorees. The board approved selling a used bus for 3000 dollars, kept the 2004 05 appraisal calendar, shifted December and March meeting dates, recommendedTransfer Appeals Committee changes and hired Marilee Holmes as LBJ Elementary principal.
ICA Properties Chairman John Bushman donated 100000 to ECISD distributed Tuesday to honored teachers selected by principals. Recipients include Martha Paredes at Austin and Janice Granado at AIM among 40 teachers across elementary, junior high, and high school campuses.
