Regulators push 62 percent FDIC premium hike for banks
The FDIC board voted 5-0 to propose a 1991 insurance premium rise to 19.5 cents per $100 of deposits from 12 cents, aiming to cover bank failures and avoid taxpayer bailouts. The proposal, subject to public comment, would lift premium income to about $4.8 billion and affect 12,500 banks.
