Low drilling on federal leases under Bush era oil push
Washington AP reports that about 30 million acres of nonproducing federal oil and gas leases show little activity. 98 percent of over 33,000 nonproducing leases have no exploratory wells, and 97 percent have no permit to drill filed. Environmentalists say plans would open sensitive lands, while officials argue many leases join into larger units with active exploration.
