Great white harpooned after 10 hour battle off Rhode Island coast
In Mystic Connecticut two charter captains Ernie Celotto and Greg DuBrule battled a 16.2 foot 3,000 pound great white feeding on a dead finback whale ten miles southeast of Block Island. The shark was harpooned and killed with two shotgun blasts after a long struggle. Coast Guard warned mariners to use extreme caution in eastern Long Island Sound as the whale carcass may draw sharks and divers were advised.
