Park Reopens At Mesa Verde As Campgrounds Stay Closed
Mesa Verde National Park reopened to day visitors after firefighters contained a 450 acre wildfire near the Ute Mountain Reservation. Archaeological sites will offer tours while campgrounds remain closed indefinitely to aid fire suppression. Weatherill Mesa site stayed shut as sprinklers protected housing units amid ongoing concerns. Previously a 10 day blaze last month burned about 23 000 acres, prompting evacuations of about 1 000 people.
